DeVante Parker: Is the 3rd Year the Charm?

Editor’s Note: Check out where Andy, Mike, and Jason have DeVante Parker and other WRs in their initial rankings for 2017. It seems like every year about this time the hype train starts chugging along for DeVante Parker and 2017 is no different. When OC Clyde Christensen predicted “a gigantic year” for Parker, he set that train…

I actually do see an increase in targets for Parker this year. Last year the Dolphins ran the ball at an extremely high rate even for Adam Gase. While they should remain a run first team, I don’t see any way there is at least some regression to the mean. I think Kenny Stills is more of a deep threat, so an increase in team targets I think benefit Parker over Stills. They also spent high draft capital on Parker and have been talking him up all off season. I am not projecting Parker to blow up, but I think his numbers from last year are his floor, and I think his ceiling is somewhere around 75 matches and high end red zone usage. I will not be surprised to see him as a viable flex this year, and you can get him as your wr4.

They ran about 43% which is about what he did in Chicago but definitely more than while in Denver so I’ll give you that. But Julius Thomas is gonna soak up some/most of those extra targets that the TEs did not on 2016.

Plus, they still have Leonte Carroo and Gase admitted he messed up by trying to have Carroo learn all of the WR positions simultaneously last year instead of giving him a more focused role. Barry Jackson, Miami Herald, noted yesterday “Leonte Carroo is the front-runner for the No. 4 receiver job based on draft pedigree, but it is not absolutely certain that he will make the team. There are several formidable challengers.”

Which isn’t heartening but he was a really nice prospect just one year ago. This is also only a note from a single day watching OTAs (that has since prompted a story on NBC Sports about how Carroo might be cut - got to love the sports media machine in late May)
